Inspiration .........what gets us out of bed in the morning
People  Personality Passion

Home Matters.

Our humanistic approach acknowledges that people (human experience) are at the center of our designs. In this way, we covet care and build bestowed trust in our relationships with our clients & construction collaborators. We believe these values matter and deliver the best results.  A "successful" project to us is one where the architecture reminds people of how they want to live with their surroundings and their own humanity.  We believe that the inhabitants of a home should feel supported and connected.

Harmony

The
Experience

Water... Fire... Family... Friends... Rest... Breathe... Exhale... Recharge... Sanctuary...

We are in service to build retreat spaces, and in this pursuit aim to elicit feelings of peace and joy. This value is  a welcome reminder that this process and practice is a privilege from all sides and something to feel grateful for. Plus we believe bringing Bliss back can bring play back into the process, and we generally think that makes things better!

Founding Principal
Irina
Paul

Designer, Project Manager

Irina is comfortable in wellies tending to her chickens or navigating the cobblestone streets of Eastern Europe in high heels.

She has an exacting eye for detail & technical know-how.  Irina is a keen observer with invaluable insights into problem solving & client interaction.  Initially she might be seen as quiet but when she speaks it's with purpose & intention.  She can also do it in English,  Russian, Romanian,  Italian & Spanish.

Irina studied architecture in Eastern Europe and is our resident expert in all things Metric, Millwork & Design.

Founding Principal
Thea
Raab

Designer, Project Manager

Thea’s interest in home building began in South Dakota circa 1980s, where she often tagged along with her grandfather, a retired farmer turned house flipper, on visits to his fixer uppers and the local hardware store.  That interest intensified with her first high school drafting class and she would often spend time drawing residential floor plans for fun.

Thea went on to receive a B.A. in Architectural Studies from the University of Kansas and an Applied Science degree in Architectural/Engineering Technology from Southeast Technical Institute.

She considers herself lucky to have a career she loves.  She views every project as a unique puzzle that requires teamwork to assemble.  The team receives the ultimate reward when all of the pieces come together.  Thea still enjoys visiting hardware stores and jobsites where the smell of sawdust takes her back to time spent with her grandfather.

Aside from work, Thea enjoys summertime at the beach or on the boat with family and friends.  In the offseason, she can be found at Whaler football games where her husband Matt is a coach, the Boys & Girls Club where daughter Sydney plays basketball and lacrosse, Dreamland Stage Co. productions where daughter Ava is a frequent participant, or catching a yoga class when time allows.

Founding Principal
Chris
Belanger

Senior Designer, Project Manager

Chris can be found overlooking the pacific ocean in our Studio West location in Santa Barbara.  If you can't find him there you might look on a racetrack such as Laguna-Seca (see above) testing the limits of his Citroen.

Chris & Joe started BPC 20+ years ago and have weathered various iterations of BPC with successful collaboration.

Chris has a razor sharp ability to summarize a 60 minute zoom meeting into 30 seconds of well organized directives. Chris is the resident expert in all things CAD, Construction, Details & Design.

Founding Principal
Joe
Paul

Architect

Joe 's passion for design & construction began with fort-building with his brother Jeff. He's inspired by vernacular architecture that responds to culture & climate. The first book  on architecture that he owned was "Architecture without Architects".

Joe's perception of beauty centers around authenticity, integrity and genuineness; therefore he sees successful design as one that is people-centric VS an ego driven attachment to a personal style.

Joe is a licensed architect in Massachusetts, New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Maine, Colorado, Florida , North Carolina & Hawaii.
